Caleb Johnson to Sing National Anthem on PBS Tonight, Helps Home State Set Record

Michael Becker/FOXIf you've watched American Idol this past season, you know that newly-crowned champion Caleb Johnson has no problem hitting high notes -- which means he'll likely be able to handle singing the national anthem tonight in Washington, D.C.

Caleb will perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" on the annual PBS National Memorial Day concert, which airs live Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET.  The show is hosted by actors Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise and is dedicated to honoring the service of the men and women of the military, as well as their families.

The North Carolina native will then travel to New York, where he'll perform Tuesday morning on Live with Kelly & Michael.  On Wednesday, he and runner-up Jena Irene -- who will perform on Live with Kelly & Michael herself Wednesday morning -- will fly back to her hometown, and Caleb will escort her to prom.

Meanwhile, Caleb's victory means that North Carolina now holds the record as the state with the most American Idol winners: three, including Caleb, season three's Fantasia and season 10's Scotty McCreery.  According to the Raleigh News & Observer, before Caleb won, North Carolina was tied with Alabama, each having two winners.  Alabama's were season two's Ruben Studdard and season five's Taylor Hicks.

Other notable Idol contestants from North Carolina have included Clay Aiken, Chris Daughtry, Kellie Pickler, Bucky Covington, Anoop Desai and this season's Majesty Rose.
