One night after receiving Billboard’s Icon Award, Jennifer Lopez was a guest on Live with Kelly and Michael on Monday.
J-Lo said it was a “surreal” experience to accept the honor at the Billboard Music Awards. She shared, “It's puzzling. You're trudging along, you're working, you're doing your thing, and when they say, 'We're going to recognize you for what you did,' it's pretty amazing. I was very humbled.”
Since the American Idol finale is this week, Jennifer was asked about the singing competition. She said she couldn’t be prouder of the female finalist, Jena Irene, recalling how she stood up and gave the contestant a kiss after Jena sang Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” on the show a few weeks ago.
Jena will perform against her co-finalist, Caleb Johnson, on Tuesday night, and one of them will be crowned the new American Idol winner the following night.
J-Lo also complimented her two fellow judges, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. She said Keith is the “voice of reason” on the panel, while Harry has a “duality” to him. She said of Harry, “He's the silliest, funniest guy you will ever meet and he loves to play around, but on the other hand he's super-serious.”
She said it was too difficult to compare Keith and Harry to the two judges she previously worked with on American Idol, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler. When asked who would win in a street fight –- Randy and Steven, or Keith and Harry –- J-Lo laughed and answered Randy and Steven.
J-Lo didn't dwell too much on her new album, A.K.A., which is out next month.
