Last month, while on tour in Australia, John Mayer performed a cover version of Beyonce's song "XO" in concert a few times. Now, he's recorded a studio version of the tune, which he'll be releasing Tuesday.
Before he even played it live, John tweeted his admiration for the song, which appears on Bey's current self-titled album. On April 12, John wrote, "The best thing about Beyoncé? The break in her voice on the first 'baby, love me lights out' in XO. Real and raw."
The studio version of the song is an acoustic guitar tune, and really sounds like a song John could have written himself.
John's next batch of tour dates includes a bunch of festivals in Europe in June. Over Labor Day weekend, he'll play the first-ever L.A. installment of the Made in America Festival, which has been taking place in Philadelphia only for the past two years. Perhaps not coincidentally, the festival is curated by Beyonce's husband, Jay Z. Wonder if she'll be on hand to duet with John on "XO?"
