Katy Perry has racked up an impressive string of world-beating hits, and all together, they've helped her reach a significant milestone. The Recording Industry Association of America has declared her to be the "most awarded digital act" ever.
Eighteen of Katy's songs together have racked up certified downloads and streams of 72 million -- she's the first artist ever to pass the 70 million threshold. Among the songs that added up to those 72 million:
"Firework" -- more than 9 million downloads/streams
"California Gurls" and "E.T." -- more than 7 million downloads/streams each
"Dark Horse," "Hot N Cold" and "Teenage Dream" -- more than 6 million downloads/streams each
Overall, Katy now has 18 Gold, 16 Platinum, and 56 multi-Platinum digital single awards. She received an award for her achievement backstage at her concert in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday night.
In a statement, RIAA Chairman and CEO Cary Sherman said, "She embodies all that makes a true global superstar: the musical talent, the extraordinary drive and genuine charisma, and an intrinsic connection with her fans. This award is a reflection of her deep commitment to those qualities and to her music, which has propelled her to this historic milestone."
Katy's tour continues Friday in Nashville, Tennessee.
