Report: Warner Bros. Backing Justice League

The Avengers. (Credit: Buena Vista)(NEW YORK) -- Confirming long-held rumors, the Wall Street Journal is reporting Warner Bros. will indeed try to ape the success of Marvel's superhero team-up Avengers franchise by launching a competing Justice League film.

The studio has reportedly made a deal with Zack Snyder, who is directing his Man of Steel sequel Batman vs. Superman, and that his 2016 release "will lead into Justice League," according to studio exec Greg Silverman. The film about the superhero supergroup that usually features Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, and Aquaman among others, is "unlikely to come out until at least 2018," the paper notes.

Henry Cavill is expected to return as Supes for Justice League, as is Ben Affleck's Dark Knight. It would stand to reason that Gal Gadot and Ray Fisher, who will appear in Batman vs. Superman respectively as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman and Victor Stone/Cyborg, another League member, will also star.
