Rixton kicked off their first U.S. headlining tour July 30 in Boston, and the British band says they're already overwhelmed by how vocal their fans are. Specifically, the members of the audience are practically breaking the sound barrier with their screams every night.
"It was just insane," lead singer Jake Roche tells ABC News Radio of the fan noise during their kickoff concert. "It just blew us away, like, it was just so surreal! Like, it's our first headline tour and apparently, [the screams were] 120 decibels." "Which is the equivalent of a jet engine," adds drummer Lewi Morgan.
"It was just really overwhelming," adds Jake. "And the most fun we've ever had!"
But Rixton's live concerts aren't just an opportunity for teenage girls to scream themselves silly: showing fans a good time is the first order of business.
"We just want people to come and chill out and have a good time and dance around like we do, like nutters," says Lewi. Jake explains, "We always say -- I always say onstage -- it's like, as soon as you walk through them doors, leave your troubles at the doors and just let yourself go and just have fun." Adds Lewi, "Like Eminem says, 'Lose yourself.'"
One reason the band has girls screaming for them is, of course, their hit "Me and My Broken Heart." The song's melody was inspired by Matchbox 20 lead singer Rob Thomas' solo hit "Lonely No More" -- so much so that they even gave him a writing credit on it, despite the fact that he really didn't have anything to do with it directly. While he's a huge musical inspiration for them, it turns out the band has never actually met Rob, though they'd certainly like to.
"He tweeted us a few times," says guitarist Charley Bagnall. "But I think we'd love to write with him, I think, 'cause he's very close with our producer, Benny [Blanco]. So I think we'd definitely love to get into the studio with him soon, but he's a busy guy I think, just writing smashes left, right and center. But yeah, he's a lovely guy and we can't wait to meet him in person!"
Rixton performed on the Teen Choice Awards Sunday night, and their tour continues Monday in Minnesota. They'll wrap up the trek August 24 in California. In October, they'll kick off a big U.K. tour.
