Watch Katy Perry Go Country on "CMT Crossroads" Friday Night

Photo Credit: Rick Diamond/WireImageKaty Perry is a pop music princess, but Friday night, she'll be getting in touch with her country side, teaming up with award-winning country singer Kacey Musgraves to perform a series of duets on a new episode of the series CMT Crossroads.  Katy says as soon as she heard Kacey's music, she felt that they were kindred spirits.

"I feel like we have the same eyes, not in a physical sense but in a way of perception," she told Billboard, noting that she instantly connected with Kacey's song "Merry Go 'Round."  "She struck a chord in me," notes Katy, who says that her and Kacey's songs are both about "sending inspiring and empowering messages and being a think-for-yourself type of woman."

So what will fans see on the episode of CMT Crossroads tonight?  "I decided to do mostly like a collage of songs from all three records -- something to showcase that fun side, that inspirational side and then that singer-songwriter side," says Katy. "You'll hear me doing a lot of background vocals on Kacey's, and you'll hear a little of that country flair."

Specifically, the two collaborate on Katy's hits "Roar," "Teenage Dream" and "Thinking of You," as well as Kacey's "Merry Go 'Round" and "Follow Your Arrow," among others. Covers of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me" and Dolly Parton's "Here You Come Again" round out the set list."

Katy and Kacey may end up performing some duets live onstage this summer as well, since Kacey will be opening up for Katy's Prismatic World Tour in August. CMT Crossroads: Katy Perry and Kacey Musgraves premieres Friday night at 10 ET on CMT.

Speaking of Katy's tour, she's teaming with Staples to help raise money for a good cause.  Staples will sponsor the North American leg of the tour, and it's also donating $1 million to DonorsChoose.org, to help teachers pay for the supplies they need to teach their classes come fall.

"A small gesture can make a large impact on the very basic materials classrooms need for teachers to help students reach their full potential," Katy says in a statement.  She's encouraging her fans to donate as well, as part of a new campaign called Make Roar Happen.
