I luzz me some Family Feud. Which is why Richard Dawson’s passing makes me sad.
Richard was the original Family Feud host. He was his own self. He had his own style. And he set the tone for the show that no host since has matched.
Richard was the host from 1976–1985 and once again in 1994. His style always included kissing the female contestants. A producer of the “Feud” guessed that Dawson had kissed upwards of 20,000 women.
Here is one of the funniest moments from his career:
After Richard left, he was replaced with Ray Combs. Oddly enough, it was Combs that Richard replaced for that 1994 season. Sadly, Combs committed suicide in 1996.
After 1994, the game show was cancelled. It was revived again in 1999 with Louie Anderson as host. He was replaced by Richard Karn (you know him as “Al” from “Home Improvement”), who was replaced by John O’Hurley, who was replaced by Steve Harvey.
Don’t ever look past greatness. Richard Dawson was great at what he did.
